Just south of Saigon is the Mekong Delta - a flat and fertile flood prone area covered in rice paddies and villages with the odd patch of Nipa palm swamp. We did a boat trip to check out some local villages and their crafts (the most traditional being squeezing money out of tourists, which they are highly skilled at). Once upon a time this was also a haunt of the Irrawaddy (river) dolphin and crocodiles.
