Our time in Quito was mainly to learn Spanish and spend some time in a home stay family. Our home stay hosts were; General Yadi Chavez , Comandante Francesco, Carlos Raul and Dorian. General Chavez ran a tight household and Carlos Raul and Dorian were amongst the best behaved children we’ve ever met. Near our school the students were often rioting and we could watch them lob Molotov cocktails from a safe distance behind police lines. Also, Rafael Correa had just been elected as the 20th President of Ecuador within the space of a year and having survived 6 months in power is approaching the longest serving president in Ecuador’s history.
