Crossing
the Atacama from the coast we arrived at the Salar de Atacama (Salt flat
of Atacama). By now the landscape was so dry that along the way there
was only bare rock and sand. I picked up a piece of orange that some previous
travellers one had dropped, and it was so dry I could shatter it. Some
mining for Lithium is undertaken on the lake and the salt tailings pictured
are stockpiled for further processing and transportation. We climbed up
one of them for a view of the Salar, and I took a tumble from the top
causing myself minor injuries.
