Langkawi is promoted as an island paradise. It's not bad but there are much nicer islands in Malaysia. Because the island lacks natural attractions the Malaysian government built a huge concrete eagle and has encouraged all the standard tacky tourist attractions. We flagged all that crap and hired a bicycle, cycled around the island and lazed about on the beach. If you go there check out the Red Tomato for some great pasta
